Some basic principles

What is an SME according to BeCeFi?

The centre concentrates on all SME's including the self-employed and liberal professions. Based on the new European definition (since 1/1/2005) a distinction is made between the micro-enterprise, the small enterprise and the medium-sized enterprise.

Does BeCeFi concentrate on certain development phases of an SME?

The role of financing can be analysed according to the SME's development phase. A distinction can be made between a start-up phase, the development and the closing down of an enterprise. The "winding-up" of an SME can be due to a transfer or bankruptcy. One of the first projects of the information centre will be to analyse the aspects of financing during the transfer of enterprises.

Is BeCeFi only interested in the Belgian situation?

The strategy of the knowledge centre mainly concentrates on the situation in Belgium. However, it is crucial to take into account the international context and to compare with other 'best practice' countries.
